T&T Tuesday: Getting the most from Google

You all know about the great love I have for Google. Did you know that google toolbar does more than just search for things? They have built in special functions.

One such thing is it will function as a unit conversion. See pictures below:

Here are some other things it will do:
  • Synonym Search - type ~ before a word : ~love
  • Dictionary Definitions - type define before the word: define love
  • Calculator - use + - * ^: 5*9+(sqrt 10)^3=
  • World Clock - type time before the location: time Rio de Janeiro
  • Weather - type weather before the location: weather Paris

There is so much more including tracking packages, finding area codes, spell checker, stock quotes, currency convertor, and so much more!

Get the most from your search (taken directly from google's toolbar page):

Plus (+) Operator

Google ignores common words and characters such as where, the, how, and other digits and letters that slow down your search without improving the results. If a common word is essential to getting the results you want, you can make sure we pay attention to it by putting a "+" sign in front of it.

Example: peanut butter +and jelly

Related Search

To search for web pages that have similar content to a given site, type "related:" followed by the website address into the Google search box.
Example: related: www.cnn.com

Fill in the Blank

Sometimes the best way to ask a question is to get Google to ‘fill in the blank’ by adding an asterisk (*) at the part of the sentence or question that you want finished into the Google search box.

Example: Isaac Newton discovered *
